A group of students are organising a language tandem (language exchange) connecting language learners and refugees.
They are about to start in Oxford in partnership with Asylum Welcome (www.asylum-welcome.org) and want to get as many Oxford language learners involved as possible!
What is a language tandem and how does it work? Let’s say you want to improve your spoken Farsi. There is a native Farsi speaker in your town who wants to practise speaking English. You decide to become language tandem partners. You and your partner meet in an informal setting once a week (e.g. in a cafe or library) and chat for about an hour, with the first half hour spent speaking Farsi, the second speaking English. You correct each other’s mistakes where they occur, teach each other new words and phrases, and encourage each other to progress.
