As part of the Modern Languages debate series, the German debate will be held in the Austin Gill Room at Magdalen College on Thursday, 26th February. The debate will start at 6:00 p.m. with a judges’ meeting at 5:45. You are warmly invited to take part in this debate as a semi-formal way to practice speaking and discuss current affairs. Whether native speaker or not, all are welcome (for judging, preference will be given to natives). Please note that this will be an individual competition, though team events may follow in future terms.
If you would like to participate, either as a judge or a contestant, please contact Walker Thompson (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Wednesday, 25th February. If you are interested in debating in German but will be unable to make this session, please still get in touch with an expression of interest as this will help with future planning.
The motions to be debated are as follows:
1. Deutschland sollte die Energiewende aufgeben und die Stilllegung seiner Kernkraftwerke rückgängig machen.
2. Islam und Demokratie sind nicht vereinbar.
Spectators are also warmly invited to attend, and do not have to register in advance.
